Scottish Parliament will not ban snares
20.02.08 – The Scottish Environment minister Mike Russell has announced that the government will not ban animal snares. He told the Scottish Parliament that snares were vital to the control of animals such as foxes as part of Scotland’s £240 million shooting industry. In the face of strong opposition from animal welfare groups, he referred to British Veterinary Association statement that “in some circumstances, snaring might be the least inhumane method where control is necessary”.
