Post Subject: To clean or not to clean that is the question

I find that after cleaning my rifle (cz 452 .17hmr) the zero is off. I dont get this with the .223. I hear some people say not to clean it but find this goes against my usual cleaning practice. Any thoughts?

Hi Gents. I clean my rifles bore after every outing whether I've shot 1 round or 20 in any weather conditions. I use KG Industries cleaning products - they seem to work best for me. I own a bore guide for every caliber & use them religiously. My method is to rod through with a nylon brush soaked in KG carbon remover, 2 or 3 strokes then leave to stand for 5 mins then repeat - send a few clean dry patches down until just light staining is visible on the patch. Then I rod through with a phosphor/bronze brush soaked in KG copper remover - 2 or 3 strokes then leave to stand for 5-10 mins (wash brush immediately as it contains copper and will deteriorate) Repeat this stage again then rod through with clean dry patches until no staining or marks are visible on the patch. Then I send down a patch with KG bore oil on & finally stow it away in the cabinet. Before I shoot any rifle I send a clean dry patch down, then give the bore a squirt of KG de-greaser aerosol & send down another clean dry patch, fire 1 shot in the field before hunting. I must say the .17hmr takes far more patches to clean than my .223 This sounds like allot of work but I find it keeps my rifles super accurate & to be honest I enjoy doing it. Good Hunting Neil

hi bears very true and i do the same with all my rifles that shoot copper bulet heads but with lead it's diferent lead fills any imperfections in the barrel staedying the round and making it more accurate , when you clean it you take it bvack to the setting up stage . i do mine once a year ,the barrel that is and need to shoot about ten rounds to fetch it back to spot on , the rest i do every outing eg the bolt and trigerer and out side of rifle. all the best Ian.
