Post Subject: semi auto's

Hi there, Can anybody tell me why wildfowlers have chosen to steer towards the semi.I have always been led to believe that on the marsh or in the field the simpler the gun, e.g. an over and under or side by side the more reliable it would be. Meaning, the less moving parts in the gun the better and less susceptible to jamming if any muck or mud accidentally got into the gun. My guns are getting a little old now and I would like to know what the advantages are of the semi-auto.

I think there are a few reasons. First, you can wait a long time for an opportunity so when it comes 3 shots must be better than 2!! Mainly though I think it has to do with using heavy loads of steel shot. These are brutal on most guns but the semi autos have been proven to take the punishment, especially in the USA. Steel is so much cheaper than its alternatives that a gun to use it through will really save you some dosh. Its easy to get a value gun with 3" or even 3.5" chambers. Finally, you can get camo ones and I think thats a fashion thing really.

There lighter to carry any distance especially over marsh land. the recoil from heavy loads is minimal and you hav ethat extra shot just incase you get the chance. compared to side by sides and u/overs you can get a good gun that will serve as agood work tool with allsorts of loadsatb a reasonable price ,what else could you ask for.
