Just new and started lamping for rabbits in central Wales (limited success). It, like most things, isn't easy stalking the sods. Any tips would be great. Cheers...Jeff..

Hmmm. The 410 has a moderator on but still gives a "bang". You think day time would be better or apply for a FAC?.

na u can go lamping with a shotgun and it can be successfull, but not as much as a rifle but u can get alot! its better if you can shoot off the back of a quad or pick up because for some reason they dont get spooked as much but just walking can be good aswell, the most ive had is 20 out 25 shots of the back of a quad in 40 minutes, then 18 off a pick up in 3 hours with alot more than 18 shots to many to count to be honest, and 8 by walking also a fox in about 3 hours so it can be done and im from roughly the same area, brecon. any way good luck mate

I agree with Rhys. The best bet with a shotgun and lamp is from a vehicle. Otherwise daytime, early probably, would be best as if the rabbits think you've seen them they might lay up and let you get close enough for a shot. If you go lamping try a dark filter so that you are not lighting up half the county and see if that stops them spooking so much. Finally a windy night will improve your chances hugely as long as you approach them into the wind.

the filter is a good idea or a dimmer on ur lamp but i still think u wud increase sucess if u was usin an air rifle or fac, thats just my own opinion, i only shoot rabbits with shotgun if im out ferreting and 1 slips the net, cheers

Thanks Rhys. I'm in Cynghordy (near Llandovery). I'll try early morning and with a red filter on for night time. Cheers guys for the info. Guess I'll be back with a question, or ten, sometime. Jeff.

i agree lamping with a shot gun is a challenge, its much better in day light i find the rabbits dont tear off for cover as long as they dont see you, if you have a spot with a few ribbits in front of you stay in cover and leave a min or 2 between shots, if they see you though they will be gone and all you will see is the white of there bums.

Good effort Ian, something to aspire too. Looking forward to finishing work next week and getting back out in the welsh valleys. I believe that field craft is as important as a good aim, would you guys agree? any tips?
