A unique mix of working demonstrations, informative features and country pursuits activities are high on the agenda at the West of England Game Fair, held at the Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet, Somerset on 17th and 18th March 2018. It will focus on hunting, shooting and fishing with a selection of have-a-go activities including air rifles, clay shooting, archery; arena demonstrations; gundog activities and much more.

The West of England Game Fair in its 22nd year is supported by BASC (British Association of Shooting and Conservation) who play a prominent role providing shooting coaching (to include gun fit and eye dominance), gundog scurries and sharing their knowledge and expertise on their trade stand on the Showering Pavilion balcony, with features including a wildfowlers row.

GUNDOGS

Graham Watkins from Gamegoer Gundog Training has a wealth of experience and knowledge with spaniels, Labradors and HPR’s. His focus at the events include: training the rough shooters dog, choosing the right puppy and early training.

BASC will also have a variety of gundog scurries. All have slight twists to simulate shooting scenarios and test dog and handler to the full.

SHOOTING

Bristol Clay Shooting will provide a trophy competition shoot on both days with categories: open, Ladies and juniors.

A great selection of guns and associated equipment will be available to purchase at the show, making this a must see event for the shooting enthusiast.

BASC will be providing a half hour lessons, aimed at beginners and those wanting to improve, with a qualified coach looking at gun fit (if you bring your own gun), eye dominance, basic safety and shooting clays. They will also provide a have-a-go experience with 10 shots for £10, with a coach present but not teaching.

The event also has a wonderful mix of have-a-go activities including archery; air rifles (coaching and have-a-go); and National Target Sports Association.

FISHING

World and European casting champion Hywel Morgan will impart his passion, enthusiasm and knowledge of fishing and fly casting at both events. His demonstrations will show that fishing is for all and is very easy to pick up.

Both shows will also feature a fishing area with a variety of companies selling fishing flies, rods, clothing and accessories plus have-a-go activities.

Something for everyone

The countryside shopping villages feature a wide variety of companies including those stocking guns, rifles and scopes, stalking equipment, country clothing – plus a wide selection of associations offering advice – National Gamekeepers Organisation, Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust and so on. Have-a-go activities will include archery, air rifles, target sports, children’s entertainment, the Skittles challenge, net making, bush craft and more.
